Hazel's First Day of School

Hazel started her first day of preschool today. She was so excited to go. She has been bugging me about it for months. I finally told her that the teacher wasn't there yet and we had to wait for her to get there. So then she kept asking if her teacher was in her car driving to school and she told me her teacher had a gray car (I am now curious about what color car she really has).
Last week we went and met the teacher and saw her class room. Then I took Hazel out to lunch and we bought new shoes (she had grown out of hers and mine had a hole in them) and then I let her get a couple new school outfits too. We got her a backpack a few months ago. We saw the Tinkerbell one and had to get it.
I explained to her that I couldn't stay there with her like I do at her dance class. I told her I would get her settled in her class then I had to go home and take care of the brothers and then I would come back and pick her up. She has been repeating that to me all week, "You will get me settled then go home and take care of the brothers and then you will come and pick me up"
So last night we got all her stuff all ready for the morning.
I had to put Hazel's name on her backpack so I thought it would be cute to do it in glitter paint. Yes, I am "that" overachiever mom.Hazel of course got up at 7 am all on her own. As I was getting ready I was mumbling to myself about how much I hated getting up early for school, felt like a teenager again. I made Hazel her favorite breakfast, scrambled eggs, which of course she didn't eat because she was so excited. We got her all dressed in her new clothes with her new shoes and backpack. She looked so cute!!!

I asked Hazel in the car if she was nervous and she told me no she was just excited. Once we got there she got nervous. I loved that they make the kids wash their hands as soon as they get there. I am a germaphob. When one kid in the house gets sick everyone gets sick so it is two weeks of no sleep for me. So we got her signed in (a parent has to sign her in and out), hands washed, backpack hung up, name tag on, and moved her name on the little chart from "Not at school" to "In School". Then I took her over to play and reminded her that I would be back to pick her up. I had the HARDEST time leaving. I stood in the doorway a while then moved to the hall, and then finally sucked it up and left. I got a text from Carlye on my way out asking how she was doing. I told her fine but I was shaking and felt like crying. I kept thinking I just left one of the most important things to me with a stranger.
I got home and was amazed at how much I got done without her home.
When I picked her up she told me how she colored and got to play on the slid. We showed her dad her picture she colored and of course it went right up on the fridge. She seemed to have a lot of fun and is excited to go back next week.
